It feels like ages since Ed Sheeran released his last album ‘x’ (Multiply), three years in fact. He’s now released a new album, ‘÷’ (Divide), which includes his new 2017 single releases. Two of his singles from the start of this year were record-breaking hits and another one was released in mid-February. He has also been rumoured to play a headline slot at Glastonbury festival in June which follows his tour around Europe and South America.
Ed Sheeran’s new album will be released on the 3rd March 2017, only a week to go! His first two songs of this year were both released on the 6th January 2017 and on their release date, he said: “Hello 2017! I’ve been working hard on the new material and I hope you can be as excited about it as I am. I really wanted to show two different sides to my music that I’m equally as passionate about and I just knew I wanted to roll with two songs at the same time. I’m absolutely buzzing to be back.”
Ed Sheeran has revealed he wrote his song ‘Shape Of You’ with Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid and producer Steve Mac. They said they had Rihanna in mind but didn’t send her the song in the end. Ed said he started writing lyrics like ‘”putting Van the Man on the juke box” and thought “she’s never going to sing that”. They decided halfway through that the lyrics would better suit Ed.
The reaction to Ed’s new album has been great, everyone loves it. It absolutely smashed the record for one-day Spotify streams by more than 2 million streams. A music video came out on the 23rd January for ‘Castle on the Hill’ and the nostalgic clip in the video was shot in Ed Sheeran’s hometown of Framlingham, Suffolk.
The following week, Ed Sheeran released a music video for his single ‘Shape Of You’. In this video, Ed is a loved-up boxer. Both videos are a must see!
Ed has revealed that his grandmother is the reason behind his love for music and his brother, Matt, is an award-winning classical composer. ‘Supermarket Flowers’, is the final track on his new album and it is reportedly a tribute to his grandmother.
