Adidas was founded by Adolf Dassier, in Germany 1924. It was previously known as Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik (Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory), until the Dassler Brothers relationship deteriorated. This was when the brothers formed two seperate brands, Adidas and Puma. Adidas is currently the largest sportswear retailer in Europe and second largest in the world. They produce over 900 million sports and sports lifestyle products worlwide every year. Currently there are over 57,000 employees around the world.Their headquarters are still based in Germany in Herzogenaurach headed by CEO Kasper Rorsted.

Adidas has become one of the most recognisable brands worldwide, with both it's trademark Three stripes logo and trefoil logo (now used as the logo for Adidas Originals). Footwear and clothing is also instantly recognisable, from the three stripes down the side of footwear and clothing.

Adidas has become a big name in fashion since the mid' 80's. Fashion and Arts have always gone hand in hand, especially in the music scene. The popular 80's hip-hop group Run-DMC, released the single, "My Adidas" in 1986. This was about their love for the Adidas Brand and resulted in a $1m dollar endordsement deal, paving the way for future artist collaborations. Today we see collaborations with artists such as Kanye West and Pharrell Williams, which have been key to the recent success of the brand. They have also collaborated with some of todays most highly regarded streetwear companies and high fashion designers. This includes Raf Simons, Rick Owens and Stella McCartney. These collaborations have solidified Adidas' status, as a staple sportswear brand in the fashion industry.

Adidas have always been one of the most innovative footwear companies. Their introduction of screw-in-studs, on lightweight football boots, helped lead Germany to win the 1954 World Cup, making Adidas a household name on football pitches all around the world. They have since put innovation at the forefront of their operations. Recent innovations include, working with Parley to make shoes with recycled ocean plastics and using 3D printing in the making of their shoes.
